The ACTIVATE YOUR ARTISTRY Concert Gala is a performance showcase that concludes our Saturday evening at the convention. This event is an opportunity for all of our attendees to meet our faculty, and receive scholarship awards they have earned throughout the convention weekend. In addition to being our Saturday evening scholarship ceremony, the Gala offers a competition option for registered dancers.
All of our guests are invited into the converted ballroom for an evening concert featuring our industry faculty, local professional companies and ACTIVATE YOUR ARTISTRY dancers.
GALA INFORMATION
INDEPENDENT DANCERS:
Independent dancers may compete up to two solos in the Gala. Independent registrations cannot be combined to compete in groups and must be registered under a studio or group account to be eligible for duos, trios, groups or exhibition.
DIVISIONS:
Dancers will compete in the same level as listed on their registration form. In the event that a group has dancers from multiple levels, the routine will be scored based off of the majority level within the group.
SCORING:
Performances will be scored on Technique, Choreography, Performance Execution and Overall Impression. Each category accounts for 10 points of a total 40 points possible per faculty judge. In the event of a tied score, the technique score will be used to decide overall placement.
AWARDS:
Each division and level will have an overall award presentation followed by the Gala Awards. Gala awards that will be awarded at each city are Masterful Musicality, Excellence in Technique, Best In Costume Design, Best Concept, Stunning Staging (for groups only), Best Choreography, Emotional Execution, Activated Award. Each award presented will be paired with a banner as well as an AYA certificate, cash prize or sponsored scholarship opportunity.
ADJUDICATION STANCE:
AYA does not include a traditional award system such as Platinum, High Gold, Gold etc. We feel that a dancers value is greater than a placement trophy. So in an effort to support each competitors artistic journey, each competing dancer will receive a scholarship or certificate from our sponsors during the Gala. Our hope is that by providing opportunities in place of trophies, we can help each dancer advance in their craft.
FACULTY FEEDBACK:
Score sheets and faculty feedback will sent via email no later than 7 days following the convention to the email address listed on the registration form.
EXHIBITION ONLY:
Dancers registered to perform as exhibition will not be eligible for banners, sponsored scholarships or cash prizes.
